My story

Why I created these resources.

After teaching Level 3 for many years, I noticed the same pattern again and again. Students would begin the course excited and motivated. By the third or fourth class, many suddenly realized just how much information they needed to master.

Students weren't struggling because they weren't capable.

They were struggling because they didn't know how to approach the material.

I created the Wine Educate Podcast to help my own students prepare for the course, and the response from students around the world has been incredible. Many have told me the podcast is where difficult concepts finally clicked. These resources grew directly from that experience.

I created them to help students understand what Level 3 is really asking of them, organize their studies, connect the concepts together, and approach the course with confidence. My goal is simple. I want you to enjoy the journey as much as I do.

No. Level 3 Blueprint, Level 3 Prep, and Level 3 Prep Live are independent study resources created by Joanne Close, DipWSET to complement the official WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course. They are designed to help you prepare more effectively before, during, or after your studies, but they are not a substitute for the official course, textbook, or the independent study required to prepare for the examination.

No. Many students purchase the Level 3 Blueprint before enrolling so they understand what to expect and can begin preparing with confidence. Others join Level 3 Prep or Level 3 Prep Live while they are taking the course.

Not at all. Many students realize after a few weeks that they need more structure and guidance. These resources are designed to support you wherever you are in your Level 3 journey.

No. During the live coaching sessions we will discuss essay technique, workshop selected essay questions together, and review suggested answers. Individual essay marking is not included.

No problem. Every coaching session is recorded, so you can watch it whenever it fits your schedule.

Yes. Members of Level 3 Prep Live can submit questions before each live coaching session. Joanne will answer as many as possible during the session so everyone can benefit from the discussion.

No. Study groups are completely optional. Some students love studying with others, while others prefer to work independently. The opportunity is there if you'd like it.

No. These resources focus on helping you understand the Level 3 syllabus and prepare effectively for the examination.

While I'll share strategies for preparing for the tasting portion of the exam and explain what the examiners are looking for, we will not be tasting wines together during these courses. There are no required wine purchases to participate.

Absolutely. Many Wine Educate students are enthusiastic wine lovers rather than industry professionals. Success in Level 3 comes from consistent study and understanding the material, not from working in the wine trade.

Absolutely. Wine Educate has students from around the world. The lessons are designed to explain concepts clearly and build understanding step by step, making them valuable for both native and non-native English speakers.

Yes. These resources are designed to complement the official WSET Level 3 syllabus, regardless of where you're taking the course. Whether you're studying in person, online, or through another Approved Programme Provider, these resources are designed to help you organize your studies, connect the concepts, and approach the exam with greater confidence.

Access depends on which option you choose.

Level 3 Blueprint: one year of access from the date of purchase.

Level 3 Prep: access for as long as your membership is active.

Level 3 Prep Live: six months of access to Level 3 Prep, including the full 12-week guided coaching cohort, followed by an additional three months of continued access to the Prep modules and resources.

Level 3 Prep Live is offered in three-month cohorts several times throughout the year. Each cohort includes six live coaching sessions held every other week.

The current cohort runs from August through November 2026. The next Level 3 Prep Live cohort will begin in January 2027.

Cohort One live coaching sessions, all at 1:00 PM Central Time: Sunday 23 August, Sunday 6 September, Sunday 20 September, Sunday 4 October, Sunday 18 October and Sunday 1 November 2026.

Once all 20 places have been filled, registration closes. You can join the waitlist and we'll let you know as soon as the next cohort opens.

Yes. Many students begin with Level 3 Prep and later decide they'd like the additional support of Level 3 Prep Live. If space is available in the next cohort, you'll be able to upgrade and continue your Level 3 journey with us.
